Grip Socks: Why Studios Ask for Them
Grip socks are not a fashion requirement. On a reformer, a polished floor or a shared mat, they solve a genuine safety problem.
What they do
Silicone dots on the sole grip the surface so your foot does not slide during a movement you are meant to control. On a reformer carriage that matters a great deal.
Hygiene
Shared studio equipment is the other reason. A sock is a straightforward barrier, which is why many studios ask for them rather than bare feet.
Choosing a pair
Look for a full-coverage grip pattern rather than a few dots at the toe and heel, and a snug fit. A loose grip sock slides inside itself, which is the problem you were trying to avoid.
